9 Benefits Of Owning A Swim Spa

Swim spas provide a wide range of potential benefits. Today, we will review a few of the most common.

Longer Swim Season

One of the biggest benefits of owning a swim spa in Canada is that they allow for a much longer swimming season. It’s no secret that the outdoor swimming season in Canada is short. In fact, most pools are only able to stay at a comfortable swimming temperature for around 3 months of the year (without a heater at least).

While it is possible to maintain a swimmable temperature in your pool using a gas or electric pool heater, the cost to do so can quickly get out of control. Not only are traditional pools not insulated, the water volume of a standard pool is also quite large. Keeping 40,000+ litres of water at 80 degrees Fahrenheit is no easy task for a heater once it starts to get cold. For this reason, your pool heater will have to work around the clock in order to properly heat the water. This can lead to heating bills that easily exceed $500 per month!

Swim spas allow you to easily, and affordably, extend your swimming season to at least 6-9 months of the year, with some swim spa owners operating their swim spas year round! They can do this both because they are well insulated, and because they hold much less water than a traditional pool does.

Lower Cost Than Other Pools

Another benefit of purchasing a swim spa is that they’re less expensive than an in-ground pool to purchase, and far cheaper to run.

As we’ve just seen, extending your pool’s swimming season can easily cost $500 per month in additional heating costs. Heating and running a swim spa in the colder months, on the other hand, costs a fraction of that. Most of our swim spa customers report that they can comfortably heat their water in the fall for $100 or less per month!

Due to their smaller water volume, swim spas also require a lot less chemicals to operate. They also don’t require accessories like pool cleaners, backwash hoses or skimmer nets to keep themselves clean; saving you money in maintenance equipment.

Small Footprint

For some people, one of the biggest benefits of owning a swim spa is their small footprint. As developers keep trying to fit more and more houses into smaller and smaller areas, backyards keep getting smaller. Not too many people want their entire backyard taken up by a pool so many are turning to swim spas to get their swimming fix.

Not only are swim spas easier to fit in small backyards, they’re also much easier (and cheaper) to install.

A standard pool takes anywhere from a few days to a few weeks to install and generally requires completely tearing apart your backyard. Once the pool is complete, you’re left with a muddy mess that needs to be re-sodded and landscaped. This adds more time, and expense, to your pool project.

Swim spas, on the other hand, only require a concrete foundation and basic electrical installation. Since they are completely self-contained units, they can be delivered and installed within a few hours; without completely tearing your backyard apart.

Ease Of Maintenance

People today have less and less free time. Nobody wants to spend that free time maintaining a pool!

A combination of less exposure to the elements, smaller size and more efficient filtration systems means that swim spas only require minutes of maintenance per week.

Hydropool swim spas take this one step further. Their Self-Cleaning filtration system filters faster, finer, and more efficiently than any other pool or swim spa in the market today. Self-Cleaning filtration cleans all of the water in the swim spa in 45 minutes or less. This allows you to keep cleaner, clearer water while also reducing your filtration system’s run time; further improving energy efficiency!

Pain Relief

A major benefit of swim spa ownership for many is the pain relief provided by their built-in hydrotherapy seats. The combination of heat, buoyancy and massage therapy found in swim spas make them perfect for relaxing tense muscles as well as relieving muscle and joint pain. If you find yourself stiff or sore after a workout or other physical activity, soaking in your swim spa for 15-30 minutes can seriously help your recovery. This is because the combination of increased blood flow and decreased strain on your muscles and joints helps reduce inflammation and speed up the recovery process.

Aquafitness

While some people choose swim spas because of their size or their ease of maintenance, others are drawn to their unique fitness options.

The current systems found in most swim spas allow you to infinitely swim at a pace that you set. Some also include features such as variable current programs that automatically change the strength of the current over time; similar to the automated programs found in treadmills. Not only that, most also come with other fitness options, including rowing kits, exercise bars for aqua fitness, cross training programs and more!

Relaxation

While getting in shape is great, sometimes you just want to relax! Swim spas are also the perfect pool for relaxing after a hard day. Whether you’re cooling down in the swim tank, floating in your favourite pool chair, or enjoying a relaxing, therapeutic massage in one of their therapy seats, swim spas are made for relaxation!

Better Sleep

Swim spa usage can also lead to better sleep. The improved blood circulation from the heat and massage provided by the swim spa reduce inflammation and soothe tired, achy muscles. The less tense your muscles, the easier it is to fall asleep. Not only that, when your body is warm you tend to fall asleep quicker and sleep better throughout the night.
